单词 | inertia |
释义 | inertia The property of matter that causes it to resist any change in its motion. Thus, a body at rest remains at rest unless it is acted upon by an external force and a body in motion continues to move at constant speed in a straight line unless acted upon by an external force. This is a statement of Newton's first law of motion. The mass of a body is a measure of its inertia. See Mach's principle; inertial frame |
