单词 | conductor |
释义 | conductor 1 A substance that has a high thermal conductivity. Metals are good conductors on account of the high concentration of free electrons they contain. Energy is transmitted through a metal predominantly by means of collisions between electrons and ions. Most nonmetals are poor conductors (good thermal insulators ) because there are relatively few free electrons. 2 A substance that has a high electrical conductivity. Again conduction results from the movement of free electrons. See energy bands. |
