| 释义 | Cerenkov radiation Electromagnetic radiation, usually bluish light, emitted by a beam of high-energy charged particles passing through a transparent medium at a speed greater than the speed of light in that medium. It was discovered in 1934 by Pavel Cerenkov. The effect is similar to that of a sonic boom when an object moves faster than the speed of sound; in this case the radiation is a shock wave set up in the electromagnetic field.
