If r is the radius of the rotating circle and R the distance between the centre of the circle and the axis of rotation, the volume of the torus is 2π²Rr² and the surface area is 4π²Rr. In Cartesian coordinates, if the z-axis is the axis of rotation, the equation of the torus is [v(x² + y²) - R]² + z² = r²
