单词 | conduction |
释义 | conduction 1(thermal conduction) The transmission of heat through a substance from a region of high temperature to a region of lower temperature. In gases and most liquids, the energy is transmitted mainly by collisions between atoms and molecules with those possessing lower kinetic energy. In solid and liquid metals, heat conduction is predominantly by migration of fast-moving electrons, followed by collisions between these electrons and ions. In solid insulators the absence of free electrons restricts heat transfer to the vibrations of atoms and molecules within crystal lattices. See conductivity. 2(electrical conduction) The passage of electric charge through a substance under the influence of an electric field. See also charge carrier; energy bands. |
