释义 | positron emission tomography(PET) A type of tomography in which a natural biochemical substance containing positron-emitting isotopes is introduced into human tissues. This causes the emission of gamma radiation which is detected using a gamma camera. The sources of the gamma radiation are calculated using a computer. The resulting tomogram provides evidence for the positions of local concentrations of the substance containing the isotope. PET is used in metabolic and physiological studies in vivo |
